Buechel Terrace is the South Fork of the Beargrass Creek. There are three main branches of this watershed – the South, Middle, and Muddy Forks.
Besides Buechel Terrace, the South Fork runs through Butchertown, Tyler Park, and Fern Creek. It also passes through Creason Park, which is across the street from the Louisville Zoo. The Beargrass Creek State Nature Preserve is located here. This preserve includes 2 miles of walking trails and the Louisville Nature Center.
The watershed of Beargrass Creek is the largest in Jefferson County, draining over 60 square miles. A little over 200 years ago, the first settlements in this county were built along the banks of this creek. These settlements were usually called “stations.”
