CONA Board Meeting
October 17 - 7:00P.M.
St. Petersburg Times Building
490 1st Avenue South

PRESIDENT'S REPORT

Dear Neighbors,

On Saturday, October 6, CONA held its Neighborhood Summit. At this summit Neighborhood Association Leaders exchanged ideas, many of them new ones. Also the leaders felt that CONA was a benefit to their neighborhoods and doing a great job. The new Chief of Police attended the Summit. He heard from everyone that CPO?’s are important to neighborhoods. He also heard that they believe the CPO program should be enhanced with more officers and smaller areas to cover. After the meeting several Association Leaders got together to set up this year?’s CONA Leadership program, an application should be in this newsletter. We encourage all neighborhood associations to publish the application in their newsletter so we can fill a class of 30 this year. The $50.00 registration fee for this class pays for class supplies, the city tour and the graduation celebration. For this price I believe this is one of the best classes of its kind offered in this area. If you haven't gone though this program yet, it might be time to consider it.

On October 9th we start rewriting the Bed and Breakfast Ordinance. I have appointed several neighborhoods association members, who have Bed and Breakfast facilities in their neighborhoods to this task force. Ingrid Comberg and Steve Plice will chair the task force for CONA. They both are experienced and very qualified in rewriting ordinance. I have confidence that a New Ordinance can be worked out to satisfy everyone.

DO YOU WANT TO BE A MEMBER OF CONA?’S EXECUTIVE BOARD? If you are or you know someone who is please let Teresa McEachen by November, because CONA holds it election in December.

At the November CONA Board meeting, Angelo Raeo will give a presentation covering Pedestrian Safety, which his department is working on. We have several people every year hit by cars and this continues to be a problem though-out the city. Bun Hap Parks from the Asian Community will be asking for your help with some problems some of our Asian member are having. Also a new problem has surfaced this week, the St. Pete Times is putting paper boxes in the right a way. This is no different than Mailboxes and is a violation of the City Ordinance. The City is already working on this problem and it may be taken care of before you receive this newspaper.
As always, I am proud of the job everyone is doing for their neighborhood.

Your Neighbor, Jim Biggerstaff
