The RRC Board and some homeowners and townhome owners have been discussing the need for a published solicitation policy. Burglars frequently pose as canvassers, either in order that they may have a pretense to discover whether a house is empty and hence ripe for burglary, or for the purpose of spying out the premises in order that they may return later. A neighborhood solicitation policy will also help to serve the important interests of protecting privacy and preventing such fraud and crime. Please feel free to express your opinion on this important issue.

I'd like neighborhood signage

While a sign at the entrance may not solve the solicitation problem, it need only further the interest in preventing solicitation. Some deterrence of solicitation activity is enough to justify the costs of posting the signs. I think broadly communicating within the neighborhood that the intent is not meant to include the neighborhood children should also be done in conjunction with placing signs at the entrances.

No Solicitation Policy

I am the scoutmaster of a local troop. One of our goals is to teach good citizenship. Respecting posted signs is part of a scout's training. If our neighborhood decides to post no solicitation signs, our scouts will respect the sign and not sell in our community.

No solicitation signs are becoming more common in our area and have hampered fund raising efforts by our boy scout troop. I understand concerns by residents about preventing crime, but the no solicitation policy will hurt local organizations.

Solicitation Signs

While I do care about the efforts that we have by our local boy scouts and girl scouts, I am also concerned about the safety of my family and everyone else?’s. I think that the individual homes signs are a good idea, but to get attention it would be better if signs were seen at the entrances to our neighborhood. Is there not a way that the people we want going door-to-door (boy scouts and girl scouts) can give a notice beforehand and acquire permission to do so? If the solicitations by them were done on the weekends I don?’t think that would as much of a big deal. It?’s the people who show up at your door after dark that concern me.
