I know there was much demolition done to build the highway, and the 'S' curved saved particular buildings. But you come to the realization that so much of our rich history (in my opinion) seems to be of little or no consequence. If we can fast-forward 20 years from now, what will our landscape look like? And I'm just speaking Pawtucket here. We will hopefully have a very beautiful highway overpass built - bringing travelers right past Pawtucket. Can we not collectively have some influence? The Read-Ott mansion is another building off Walcott Street that has been 'laying low' over the past couple of months - but I also hear that it will be demolished.

Dear PSZ,
What I would like to see 20 years from now in the downtown district is some housing or stores such as Trader Joe's on Roosevelt Avenue across the street from Pawtucket City Hall. In addition, I hope some developer has the kindness to demolish the white brick monstrosity across the street from the Grant Building. The building does not fit in with the historic neighborhood. |

Great ideas! Can we make this happen? Can we collectively make this happen! ? |

Why Not? |
