Are you guys serious about drilling a well? You know that you have to buy the mineral rights on the land as well. It is a pipe dream - it would cost more than it is worth! I believe H2O owns the mineral rights here anyway.

A well easily would cost 80K just to drill, then you have to buy a pump and storage facility Plus the electricity to run it. It is not feasable.

What kind of liability would the HOA have by owning a pond? Would  this be a pond that minnows and such could live in to minimize the mosquitos hatching from the water? I know you guys are just investigating, but these are questions I have when I read a pond the possibility of a pond as a solution for a recommended water solution.

Another thought- where is our board on this? Should a committee made up of community members be working on researching options to present at a future meeting so one poor soul isn't stuck doing all the work? Undecided

Rockwell, we are serious about LOOKING into drilling a well. Castlegate has been kind enough to get one, estimated bid, and if you look back it was from 50k to 75k which included the drilling of the well, pump, pulling the electricity and the pond or tank.  Yes this was only a over the phone estimate.  It does not cost us anything to LOOK into areas like this, other than Castlegates time, which I will again thank him for.  I do not think H2o would own the mineral rights on our property.  I would have to look up on my paperwork, but I do not recall signing over my mineral rights at time of my closing.

I have four different Well and Pump companies scheduled to all meet together with myself, Brett, and our head landscapter in order to put together written bids to install a well for the 17 acres of turf along Schnepf road.  Preliminary estimates over the phone range from 40k to 80k which includes a full installation including well, pumps, and retaining tanks or pond.  Ideally I will have these bids at our July meeting to present to the rest of the board.  If this is the case, we will be discussing weather or not to go forward with the project and how to pay for it.
