Mail Scam

Posted in: Smoky Ridge
Thanks so much to Brian McKnight for the information regarding Visa and Mastercard. We received some disturbing mail this week, and you need to know about it.

We received an ''Official Notice of Delinquent Parking Citations''. It was from the ''City of Pasadena'' in California. Supposedly, we owed for a citation. What alerted me to the fact that it was a scam, was because it gave
a date for the ''citation''. We have not been to California since 1997. The ''Notice'' had the right license plate #, but the make of the car was wrong. It gave a date of when this ''supposedly'' happened, a citation #, the time it occurred, and the location. The other information they wanted was, if you no longer owned the vehicle, in order to excuse you from paying the citation, you needed to include a copy of your Bill of Sale, where you purchased or leased the vehicle, your signature and a check so that they could get your bank account #. Also, if you did not pay it in (21) days, you now owed an additional $10.00 penalty. After (31) days, you owed an additional $18.00 late penalty. If I had not really looked over the notice, it would of been easy to think it was real.It looked very professional, and they also included a return envelope to send your payment in.

Be careful of anything that comes in the mail and read it throughly. We were shocked at how real and professional the Notice looked.

Just wanted to let everyone know to watch for this scam. (Almost forgot, the Citation was for $35.00).
