Neighbors Helping Neighbors. That is what our little 39 unit Public housing Jacksonville Housing Authority Complex is all about.
Centennial was formed in 1991 by a group of concerned residents who wanted to be a voice for the little people, the representatives who could make a difference at the round table meetings.
We have a board of directors and are a not-for-profit 501(c)3 corporation. The officers of the corporation are Ms. Vickey W. Murphy, President- Ms. Princeen Henderson,vice-President, Ms. Crystal Jackson, secretary, Ms. Francis Swinton, treasurer. These are the officers of the year 2002.
With the approval of a self-sufficiency resident management business development grant Centennial East was able to open and operate a computer lab and GED preparation class.
Several of the officers completed their basic computer training classes and are now running the office with little or no help from outsiders. With the guidance of the R.O. Barnes consultant firm they are managing to mantain the financial end of the record keeping of the office and file keeping. Several of the residents are still taking keyboarding lessons.
