An Old Fashioned Fourth of July

Sep 20, 2005

Forget having to pack up a picnic basket, dragging out the barbecue equipment, buying ice for the cooler, and getting mixed up in traffic. CentrePointe Neighborhood Association has a much better idea for your 4th of July. Join CNA and the Aurora Alliance Church, 15600 E. Alameda Pkwy. (located just east of Tollgate Creek on Alameda Pkwy.) for a traditional July 4th barbecue with hamburgers and hot dogs. Starting at 5.00 p.m., neighbors will be able to walk or drive over to the Aurora Alliance Church (there will be plenty of parking for those of you who need to drive) and start to enjoy the fun. We plan to have music, face painting and areas for kids and parents alike to play with footballs, softballs and Frisbees. We will have our annual most patriotic tricycle and bicycle contest with prizes for first through third in the 5 and under age category and the 6 and over. Come show your creation to picnic goers and register to win at the drink table. The contest will begin at 7:30 p.m. Triple B Toys will have inflatable toys for all picnic goers to enjoy so there will be no excuse not to come out and have fun.

The 2005 menu (served from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.) will include your choice of a hot dog or hamburger and baked beans, potato salad and coleslaw. Desserts will be provided by Aurora Alliance Church members. Canned and bottled beverages will be sold separately for .50 cents each. Adult meals will cost $3.00 and children under 6 will cost $2.00 . CNA is looking for volunteers to help with cooking and serving. If you are interested in helping, please contact Ellen Belef, by email:ellenp.belef@comcast.net or call 303-671-8383.

What is a 4th of July picnic without fireworks? The City of Aurora will be lighting up the sky beginning
after dark (around 9:30 p.m.) and KEZW-AM 1430 will be playing patriotic music which the church will broadcast over their public address system for your enjoyment. We are fortunate to have an unobstructed view of the display.

PLEASE remember that the sale and use of private fireworks are illegal in Aurora. We want a safe evening so please do not bring fireworks (including sparklers) to the picnic.

Just a safety note...with many of us away for the day, please make sure that you leave your property secure. Close and lock windows and doors both in front and back and shut the garage door. We have a relatively safe neighborhood and lets keep it that way.
