Roseland Residents,
CPS has ended bidding on the former Shedd Elementary School, 200 East 99th Street. RHCA has been informed that one of the top two bidders on this property Rescue Missionary School was not chosen. Rescue Missionary visited RHCA at our monthly meeting and the community approved of the sale to this bidder. CPS has made the final decision without any input from the community.
RHCA along with the residents of this community want to preserve the unique character of our neighborhood and therefore would like to know to what company or organization this school has been sold. One of the requirements, in the information packet for the bidders, was that the "community" had to have a voice in the final decision. We have not.
The community has not been informed who the new owners are nor have the new owners contacted the community about a Community Benefits Agreement (CBA) a specific agreement between the new owner and the broad community coalition that details its contributions to the community and ensures support for this Community. This agreement should be legally binding and enforceable to protect our community’s rights.
CPS should have up-front communication. This sale should maximize a positive impact on local residents. Which would be no loss of open space and the retention of the play lot and ball field? The new owner must show benefits that actively support this community and respond to some community needs.
Public input results in better relations and benefits the whole community. CPS needs to tell us who new owners are and inform them of our expectations.
Please pass this on to everyone if you don't want to see Shedd's playground and park disappear!!! Please email, write or call contacts listed below about this DISRESPECT!!!
Thank You
