Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Some of you old timers in Sundance will remember us; Larry and Lynn Voss formally of Long Rifle Drive. We now live across 301, but still in Wimauma. We have been attending the Planning and Growth Committee meetings with Hillsborough County in Wimauma once per month at the Wimauma Senior Center on North Street. Early on, a representative from your homeowners group came and said Sundance wanted to opt out of the community plan. Since that time, several Sundance people have become involved in the planning process and are starting to realize this is very important.
First, let me remind you all that the area we are talking about is up stream from you on the Little Manatee River. Anything that happens to do with that river is coming your way. Second, there is the issue of an ever increasing traffic problem and Wal-Mart and other already approved subdivisions are just around the corner. Can police, fire, roads, sewer, water, and schools keep up with this growth?
Believe me, the developers in the area are chomping at the bit to get the highest density they can for these new developments that they are working on right now as us citizens sit back in our easy chairs! The developers do not live here. When they leave we are left with what they have created and they have moved on to the next land grab.
You moved to Sundance, I'm sure, because you value having a little nature around you. You didn't want to live in a cookie cutter housing project with 6 houses per acre because you valued nature, privacy, a little elbow room and access to the Little Manatee River and great boating and fishing! Those are the same reasons we lived there in our younger years.
I encourage you to look at the area around you. Hillsborough County will grow at the developers discretion unless WE all say as citizens, ''We have had enough!'' We do not want another Brandon here in South County. Already we have 8,800 new homes coming in that we cannot stop. Can our fragile natural resources take the growth? Where is the run off going and what about the additional septics? We can not stop most of this growth but we can say to the County that existing densities and 2 homes per acre are enough!
We are not developers, lawyers or land use attorneys so we feel we are not being heard over the roar that they create with the County. They are paid to get the best deal for there clients and have all week to work to that end. We are just ordinary people concerned about our area and like others, in meeting after meeting, the majority have said ''Low Density!''.
We would ask you to search your hearts and think about the future of the area that is your town. Yes, there are many things we all want to do to make downtown Wimauma a place we would enjoy coming to. Those things will be in our plan. But we ask you to also think about what this area will look like in ten years if growth goes unrestrained. Please join us as a group or just as concerned citizens at the next Wimauma Planning meeting which we believe will be 11-21, Monday at 6 pm, Wimauma Senior Center. Help us to maintain a small town atmosphere in this area.. Don't wait to speak up about the future of our area or it may be too late!
Thank you for your time old friends and neighbors.
