Please mark your calendars for our next community meeting on March 12, 2007 at the Darnall E-Campus Elementary School, 6020 Hughes Street, 7:00 PM. This meeting will focus on the subject of restoring our community name to Redwood Village.

Why attend?

This will be your opportunity to hear why the DCC Board and many residents would like to restore our community name to Redwood Village. It will also give you an opportunity to ask questions and share your ideas about the name restoration during the public comment portion of the meeting. This will be the last meeting where the name restoration issue will be discussed before the vote to be held on May 14, 2007. All residents served by the DCC are urged to attend.

Please see previous discussion thread new name? by author wakegirl there are three replies with the latest Sept 11, 2006. Please do not continue the thread new name? Please reply to Redwood Village to continue this discussion.

Redwood Village

I regret that as a one-time past president of Darnall Community Council that I can not embrace the proposed new name or as some have referred to it as a resumption of an old name for the community. As a twenty-five plus year resident and once very active member of this neighborhood's community council, I have great difficulty in relating to what a developer call his project some fifty plus years ago without much regard to the local fauna or geographic area. The best I can tell of the origin of the name is that he named a street Redwood and stuck his model homes to show the public what was to be sold throughout the various housing tracks being offered. Sorry if I don't find it very romantic, descriptive of the area or helpful in defining our small portion of the area. It probably doesn't help that I would far and away prefer that this entire area bordered by Rolando, El Cerrito and Oak Park as College Grove. I am acutely aware that for this to become a reality, someone would have to achieve cohesiveness throughout all the neighborhoods south of University Avenue to the 94 and between College Avenue and 54th. I recognize that such a dream is very ambitious, but that is what I would be willing to work for with others rather than any changes of the name that forego such an opportunity to improve what we have without achieving such a goal. Still I very much appreciate the hard work the council is doing on behalf of the community!

All the more reason to come out and vote! See you May 14.

As far as the ambitous goal of unifying several neighborhoods into one - ???

Thanks for commenting on the hard work of the council. We have more than 20 active community members (the board to and the Digest deliverers) who volunteer their time on behalf of the Darnall community. I appreceate everyone that takes their time to volunteer in our community!!

how did the vote go?

Hello,
I was just wondering how the vote turned out on the renaming?
I could not stay until the votes were counted and I am not sure when the results will hit the website.
Thank you.
Yes, I did vote.
