About the Clokey Park Neighborhood Area

The Clokey Park Neighborhood Association area primarily consists of three major additions to the city of Decatur between 1870 - 1900.East Park Boulevards, an area between East and 19^th, William and Wood, was plated by Josiah Clokey, a prominent real estate developer, in 1888. He later duplicated the East Park Boulevard plat with Urban Place in 1892. At that time, 22^nd Street was practically the eastern edge of the city. The final subdivision was Beman Place, located between William, Jasper, Wood and East Avenue between 1902-1908.  The original boulevards placed through the middle of both East Main and East Prairie streets are an unique feature to the neighborhood, recently re-used in the design of the Wabash Crossing Neighborhood more than a century later.

About Clokey Park 

Clokey Park, located at 1800-1900 East Main, was plated in 1888 and 1892, named Garfield Park in a city-wide contest in 1912, and renamed J.M. Clokey Park in 1945 by the Decatur Park District.  The Clokey family was supportive of early Decatur recreational activities. 

About Clokey Park Neighborhood Association

The Clokey Park Neighborhood Association began on July 31, 2007 at a neighborhood meeting held in Clokey Park organized by Jason Butterick with the support of Dove Community Services /Decatur Area Project.

The Clokey Park Neighborhood Association works with Dove Community Services/Decatur Area Project, the City of Decatur, the Coalition Of Neighborhood Organizations [CONO], and other agencies and groups for the improvement of the Clokey Park Neighborhood.

Membership in this association is open to any property owner, active business or organization, or resident within our designated boundaries, as well as persons with an invested interest in the quality of life within our neighborhood.
