October 23, 2008 Colonial Acres Neighborhood Association Meeting

We had a good turnout Thursday night for the meeting. Col. Dave Martello spoke most of the hour, advising how the MPD is focusing efforts on areas that are experiencing an increased number of burglaries and non-residential thefts. By far, most crimes in Colonial Acres are "property" crimes and happen during daytime hours when most people are at work.

Crime Prevention

What we can do to help prevent crime-
Overall, make your property more secure to help discourage criminals, don't be an "easy target."

* Keep doors and windows locked.
* Install security doors, alarm systems, motion lights.
* Start a Neighborhood Watch group on your block by meeting with your neighbors and exchanging phone   numbers and email addresses. Call Leigh Jackson, Neighborhood Watch Coordinator at the Mt. Moriah Station 636-4195 to find out how to register your group with the MPD.
* Don't leave valuables visible in vehicles. "Stow It, Don't Show It."
* Watch out for each other, arrange to pick up each other's mail and newspapers when you're away so there's no obvious sign that no one's home.
* Notice vehicles and persons that "cruise" your area and report suspicious activities to the police at 545-COPS (545-2677). Give a good description, the more detail the better, including vehicle model, color, license plate number if possible.
* THE POLICE WANT TO HEAR FROM US on these issues. We citizens are the front line of defense against crime.
