Rehearing This Week
There is a rehearing this week for the wording in our proposed ballot measure. If I understand this correctly, the topic will be wording relating to fiscal impacts resulting from passage of the proposed ballot issue. Sounds like if repeal is successful, then BFCC wants the state (or somebody) to reimburse them for money they spend on building the new jail and courthouse - even though they will keep and use their new court facilities (not sell or demolish) and they will use or lease out the jail for profit. To quote a dear friend - "that just ain't right". They want to build it, they will use it, then they should pay for it. By WW |

Well i hope everyone had a good weekend, now that I am feeling better I can get on with life once again!! I'm sure the hearing will go fine, I can't understand why BF wants someone else to pay for this. They "created" this problem not us so why shouldn't they pay for it?? I was told my some Westy CC that there is nothing "legally" they can do to Stan's threats, and again i ask "why"? THey are making Westminster residents look bad and they keep using the "jail" as the issue, it is not the issue anymore and I wish the media (Broomfield's papers) would get this right. Seems like they do just about anything for a story!! By cheryl |

4 BC about "To All"
Good post, BC. You bring up some things I mull around in my head pretty often, and also, that CVELG discusses often. But I would like to respond with my thoughts. The special case that applies to political (and other legal) processes is that if the "end" was achieved by circumvinting the pre-scribed process ("means"), then the "end" is invalid. (you know, like when someone is arrestted but released because their rights weren't presented to them appropriately; or when a court decision is overturned on appeal ...that sort of thing) If I understand you correctly (and I may not), you are saying that even though we think the proponents of City/County did not adhere to legal and ethical means during the process - it's the achieved end that matters. But that is EXACTLY what bothers me. I know there are some things in life that you just have to say "oh, well, as long as we got there in the end". But legal and political process should not be (and are not) that way. We reallize we haven't communicated our mission clearly .... and we're working to do that now. But basically, we want ethics in local government. We are pursuing the BF City/County issue because we believe it to be such a blatent example of lack of ethics in local government. And I might add, that we (Westy citizens) WERE affected by the result (ie jail) I'll agree with your recomendation about keeping an eye on our own (Westy) local government .... you are SO RIGHT. They have demonstrated less than ethical politics as well. And they are probably sick to death from hearing from and about us. I have more thoughts on this, but my lunch hour is over and i have to run. But again, I thank you for the post. By WW |
