Never assume that you understand my reasons for participation in this concern of CVLEG. You do not know me; and I will not be tolerate of someone who has sent a couple messages; and willingly has categorized each member of this board into a vision which fits your particular needs.

If it is indeed your intention to categorize; then the democratic process as you describe it is a submissive system which denies the people a voice once an election is completed.

Yesterday I received a flier on my door concerning a very emotional issue in BF. Council, during the regular meeting last night; had written a resolution that would have split a dedicated open space area into a multi-use area. The area is known as the Field and has been protected through vote to remain open space for the rest of eternity. However, some people view this as a pile of dirt; not as preservation of history and a wildlife habitat. There have been many public and open forums on this land this year alone; attendance has often exceeded several hundred as the council invested in a study for comprised development; to please both sides on this issue.

Last night the resolution on the table would have adopted this compromise and added development to the field. One person, just one person, called her ward representative and discovered this was the wording of the resolution. Within three hours; she called several people; had volunteers to canvas this community with fliers (written and printed in two hours); and last night she and two others worked with her ward council members and drafted, and wrote an alternative resolution; basically to preserve the field as open space and directing council; within a specified time limit, to buy land to satisfy the needs of the other side of the issue.

Last night a simple resolution was replaced with an alternative; and the alternative won; at which time a full audience of citizens burst into applause. Recess of the council was requested so we could thank our ward representatives who voted for the alternative (9-1 for). Had the democratic process with citizen participation not been permitted in our representative society; we would today be looking at the development of the field.

I will not be your research specialist; you came here as the expert on democracy. If you prefer that citizens take a submissive role; that is your choice; I truly believe citizens have more value in America than you give them credit.

And no, Margaret, you do not understand this issue. If you are truly interested in supporting either side; perhaps it would be in your best interest to become an active member of that side. Until then; do not ask me to do your research.

Geeze, John, if I viewed a group as pathetic fools with no reason for what they do.... the last thing I would spend my precious time doing is monitoring their discussion board.

I'm open for discussion with you on specific arguments or questions you have relating to what we (CVELG) do or think (if you're willing). If you're not willing, OK, but why the 'out of the blue' input now? Were you just in the mood to throw out an insult - or what?

I think most people who monitor this board, at the very least, feel that what we do may have some impact on their lives. The fact that you're here tells me you are concerned about that impact to you.

What we (CVELG) hope to do (get the question of repeal on the 2000 ballot)will require a WHOLE BUNCH of voters to buy into our goal. If we have no basis for what we do, we won't get that support and we'll have no impact on you.

John, groups such as this or more well-known national groups such as the Sierra Club, the ACLU, the EDF, the Rocky Flats Coalition, are examples of the strength of America vs the strength of less fortunate countries where the citizens are not given a voice; Bosnia comes to mind; as does Rwanda, Cuba, China, and Iran.

What is your choice, John. To be a judge of a system you describe as pathetic; or to join a system where citizens are ordered to be quiet; to be a submissive member of the social order.

Very well put Chris, couldn't agree with you more!! And unfortunatley, the jail is a done deal, now all we can do really is to make sure that they take the precautionary measures that they promised us. And I for one am glad BBW(aka a troll) is gone, he came here thinking he could just amaze us with his intelligence about BF and the jail issue and it seems it didn't work. Our minds are made up, we've been in this thing a long time and we know to much to just throw in the towel.
