Repeal Broomfield County

Of course BF has complained to the state; about the overpass; Wadsworth, and 120. For years, the overpass has been known as the "Road from Hell"; and for years the state has failed to acknowledge its dangers. If you are on this during rush hour; the road actually shakes your car; it is so weak and dangerous.
There is a new Park n Ride planned at 119 and Wadsworth; moving some of the traffic to 120. I do not know when this is to be completed; but it will require a change in the ramps to Wadsworth; a continuation of 128 to the PnR; and an extension of lanes on 120. It will NOT include any repairs to the interchange.
Northwest Parkway is partly responsible for this; BF CC has promoted that some of the traffic will be eliminated if the commuters are willing to pay a toll of an estimated $3 each way to work. Figure it out; would you be willing to pay almost $1500 a year to drive to work on the NWP and miss the interchange on Wadsworth? BF CC and Interlocken think so!!

Broomfield is losing

I know we have John providing his/her literary talents but nonetheless, despite what John is, what concerns me most is what Broomfield residents are doing.

This sleepy bedroom community better wake up to the alarm and realize what is happening to the city. All I hear from residents is displeasure in losing open space and the thought of how much this growth negatively impacts them; grumbling amongst themselves however will not resolve the problem. The issue is that if Broomfield does not like what they see now, just wait a couple more years. Broomfield is only 1/3 the way in its growth objectives.

What I find extremely disturbing is that people are either afraid to get up and say something or feel so inundated with council and staffs legal mumble jumble that they turn away feeling ignorant. Perhaps the reason that some of this approved development is so out of charactor directly relates to the fact that the primary planners for Broomfield are not even residents of the City, they are simply number crunchers devoid of any devotion or sensitivity to the mess they are creating.

Another example is what happened to the open space advisory board. The advisory board use to review proposed development plans and provide comments thereof during hearings. This function has been removed as an encumberance from moving hearings along. I have not read or heard one comment from any citizen about this being a problem. The open space advisory board only exists now as a token board. Shouldn't this concern all of us especially since we have an open space tax.
Anonymous: Everyone is losing

Broomfield is definitely asleep, as we have discussed before.
There would be no need for CVLEG if BF residents had spoken before; had challenged the council during the state assembly hearings; and had become involved at that point.
I am very familar with your encounters with apathy; both of us can spend hours talking about the apathy.
What is more useful; talking about the past or how to motivate people now!
So far, the most common methods do not work: letters to the editor; pleas to call the council person; door to door, neighbor to neighbor discussions. I have a neighbor who really got involved in an issue; the attitude now as the costs of the county are escalating, the NWP is being built; etc. Pure laughter; no one listened then and so what, let them pay now. Are these people as upset about this process as I am? You bet!! Are they willing to write a letter, call a council person, form a neighborhood group; nope. Takes too much time.

So what are your suggestions for once again getting the electorate involved? I was extremely upset over the turnout in the election, 22%. Yet, I happened to turn on Channel 2 last night at the end of their broadcast; the anchors were giving the results of a phone in poll concerning the upcoming primaries in the national election. The result: 64% responded they "Don't care" about the primaries. Go back to the year of the caucauses (spelling) in the last election. The reporter from the Enterprise (Carver) visited a home of one of the hosts of the Republican caucus. Present were the host; and her daughter; plus one other person. This person, you do know either personally or by reputation, she is very active in BF and has been for years. At that time Carver wrote a story on the lack of interest in local, state, and national politics.

So what are the answers? I have none; even though, through experience, I know that a group can make a difference.
All those people grumbling to you about open space; what are their plans to change the current trend? What are they willing to do. I know the open space committee is a politically correct token; and have been vocal about this both to the council, the neighborhood, and the community; also on this board.
I am sick of the grumblers; I ask them what they are willing to do. When they say nothing; I say either do something, or quit grumbling. Personally, I am very tired of being the neighborhood spokesperson because someone else is too lazy to do it themselves. A message on e or a phone is less than 60 seconds.

The Council

The BF council has the majority of this town exactly where they want them; using them for a rug. As long as people sit on their duffs; or claim time as a factor; we will constantly be inudated with trashy subdivisions, trash mouthed council members, two-bit strip retail centers full of fast food, libraries full of fast food and office centers, and a community of rooftops; travelling pet zoos, and totally undesirable.
Council showed its lack of respect for this community during the county drive; when they refused the right for this to be a local issue on the ballot question..Simply if this did not pass in BF; the state vote would have been invalidated.
Personnally, I am not giving up; I still call my council person; I still call the city; I still encourage my neighbors and friends to ask questions; to get involved. That will always be my answer; and I have realized that people have to be willing to take responsibility for their inaction. And I tell them so.
