Barking Dogs

Why dogs bark

Our dog barked a lot at the rodents that took up residence under the toolshed next to the neighbor's bird feeder. Once the birdfeeder was relocated to the other side of her yard, and the rodents were trapped out, the excessive noise ceased.

What I did....

I am in the University park area and the home next to mine has some new renters w/ 2 small dogs. The barking begain the day they moved in, however I did nothing thinking that this noise would decrease after a few weeks, once the dogs got used to their new surrondings.
After this peroid of time I begain to notice a pattern, the dogs would be let out in the morning at 5:30am, at about 5:40am the dogs would sit on the back step and bark to be let back in the house.
The pet owners would not let them back till about 6:00am.
(20 mins of nonstop barking 7 mornings a week )There was also a pattern of this same ritual in the evening around 11:00pm.
I made one phone call to the Denver city pound.
They have a policy which is very community friendly. They dispatch a city employee to the home address of the pets owner and discuss the city regulations with the owner and also leave the owner with a copy of the law. Re: pet ownership in the city of Denver. You,as the reporting party may remain anonymous. The neighbors dogs still spend a lot of time outside, only now they do not bark as much...

Signed, Living in peace :)

You protest too much

Mychal,
Sounds like you own a barking dog, too. You're gone all day and assume that your sweet dog only barks at the mailman and at "undesirable" people. I beg to differ with you. Your dog probably barks as this man says because your pet is alone and bored, sitting in his yard for hours at a time. Do you honestly think this man is crying wolf, wasting his workday ringing neighbbors' doorbells and squandering his time confronting the owners directly? Why would he subject himself to all this grief if the dogs were not driving him crazy? Get a conscience, Mychal, and bring your dog in. If not for your neighbor, then do it for your dog.
