Scrape off at Mississippi & Race

Posted in: Washington Park East
What is the neighborhood reaction to the scrape off on the 900 South block of Race. I personally think the large brick home is beautiful. It actually looks like something that was built in the 1920s. I guess you'd call it a Denver Square design. The only thing I'm unhappy with is that it is just too large for the corner lot in which it sits on. The city shouldn't of allowed the builders to build all the way back to the alley and basically to both sides. The only apparent grass is in their small front yard. I think the house overpowers the immediate neighbors. Also, I noticed that just south of this particular house and across the street (I believe about Race and Mississippi) builders are also scraping and building a home which I view as looking something like you'd find in Highlands Ranch. How is it that some builders do such a fantastic job, in the case of the first one I mentioned (just a little too big), and some builders just don't get it! I inquired about the home on the corner and it went for about $950,000. I'm sure the one south of it will go for about $800,000 or so, and it just amazes me that for just a little bit more money this house could have looked like it belonged in the neighborhood! What are people thinking when they choose a design that looks like 1980 suburbia?
