I realize that with the housing shortages around the city that some landlords perform a cursory check of their prospective tenants. Some may turn out to be wonderful neighbors, but I have discovered that some can be down right nasty. Recently, my family was cleaning out our garage and had set a dresser outside of the garage to make room for some other things. The dresser was intended to go to my sister's house, so we didn't put it back in the garage. There was also a large container of seashells on top of the dresser that had been collected by our mother from around the world. Not more than an hour after we had finished, someone walked up to the house and brazenly took not only the dresser but the container of seashells as well. I shudder to think how much longer it will be before these people decide to walk into my house to see what else I have that they might want as well. It is one thing to set unwanted items out at the end of the driveway, but quite another to have them right up against the house and have them taken without so much as a question regarding what is going to be done with them.
