Tree Care in our neighborhood

Posted in: University Park
I have gleaned some information on Tree Care from a The Denver Post and our last neighborhood association meeting that I wanted to share with everyone. If you know of more- especially with reference to the Spruce trees, please share it in this discussion area.

1) Denver Water recommends watering trees once or twice a month during fall and winter.

2)The amount of water depends on the diameter of the tree trunk. Trees with diameters larger than 14 inches need at least 70 minutes of deep, slow watering.

3)For the bigger/older trees, a deep root-watering device is recommended (they are not that expensive and can be purchased at any garden or hardware store.)

4) It is best to go down 18 inches for deep root watering. Keep moving the deep root watering device around the tree.

5) Water at the outer most reach of the limbs - called the drip line.

6) For younger trees or if you do not want to buy a deep root watering device, you need to let the water literally drip out of your hose (very slowly) and do so at the drip line mentioned in (5) above.

7) If you suspect a beetle in your spruce tree - you may notice red dust around the bark where the beetles have bored, or the needles are brown - call a tree specialist company, such as Swingle.

Please add more information in this discussion area if you have more or different info to share.
Thanks,
Susan
