ROCKIES OFF THE (LIGHT) RAILS

Posted in: StCharles-Lodo
On August 17th, The Denver Post quoted a Rockies official as having announced that they will not contribute to the Central Platte Valley Light Rail Spur (LR). [see http://www.denverpost.com/news/news0817a.htm]

Someone there has decided fans won?’t walk the distance from the LR station behind Union Terminal to Coors Field. Come now, those of us who live here know from seeing them that lots of fans now walk from Auraria parking, from Market St. Station and from parking lots behind the Post Office Annex Union Terminal.

We residents, with no commercial interests, and much lighter wallets than the Rockies, have contributed $20,000 to the LR Sput because we know it is in the interest of the community. Are the Rockies part of this community or are they not?

Do you think they should be contributing as are the other major venues around the Central Platte Valley, as well as LoDo businesses and residents?

Rockies Toxic Attitude

Of course the Rockies don't support light rail. They support their parking lot fees - reference their statement, "The team is more interested in its parking lot access (than it is in light rail access)." Why would they contribute $300,000 to lose money?

The reality is the Rockies don't need light rail or their parking lots. All they need is TV royalties that will go on globally long after they lose their local patrons to gridlock and carbon monoxide.

We're naive to think the Rockies will play fair ball with their fans much less with their neighborhood.
