There was some good news from the State Senate concerning the Bi-annual Budget for the State.

The Senate has restored the cuts to the Local Government Assistance Fund that the Governor had proposed. The Governor had proposed a 10% cut for Villages. To Valleyview that would have meant a loss of approximately $10,000 in revenue. The Local Government Assistance Fund shares the State's revenue with all of the townships, villages, cities and counties in the State. That money goes to the General Fund and is used to meet the day to day expenses in Valleyview such as Police Protection, maintenance of the park and Village Hall, and utilities for the Village.

A $10,000 loss would be significant in a General Fund Budget of approximately $201,000. The Budget for the Village is stretched thin, but we have been working to get as much as we can for our dollar.

The Village has had some unexpected expenditures such as the need to purchase a new copier as the old one quit working. The Village also has future needs to look at such as replacement of the mower and Village truck.

The Budget has not been finalized yet but hopefully the restored funding will stay in place while the House and Senate finalize the budget.
