At the Regular Council Meeting for May the Village Council confirmed three officers for the Valleyview Police Department.

Sergeant Luke Hickman
Corporal Roger Myers
Officer Ty Myers

Were confirmed for probationary status for the Village Police Department.

Also at the meeting the Village Council passed a Resolution Condemning Former Mayor Raylene Graves for her misuse of the Village owned cell phone while she was in Office.

There was also legislation to acknowledge a change in the insurance policy.

The Council also discussed an operating levy that will be put on the November Ballot. The Levy will be for 5.5 mills which is less than the previous 7 mill levy that is expiring. The 5.5 Mill rate will collect approximately the same amount as was previously collected by the expiring levy. The amount collected will actually be a little less and residents will see a decrease in the tax bills in the portion that the Village collects.

The Village is able to reduce the tax burden on the residents by careful management of the resources available to the Village. Even with the reduction in the amount the State will be contributing the Village the Council feels that the financial needs of the Village can be met with a reduced levy. With the levy the day to day expenses can be met, but should it fail to pass the Village cannot survive and services would have to be cut back.

If residents have any questions about the Levy please contact a member of Council. The Resolution will be brought before Council at the June Council Meeting.
Cream of the Crop????????

Lord have mercy!

Did you really have no other choices?

Ty Myers left Valleyview then left Franklin Township. Why can't he keep a job? Did anyone ask?

Officers Presented For Approval

Only three officers were interviewed by the Public Safety Committee. I was out of town and unable to participate in the interviews.

I believe that the Chief is reviewing other applicants for the department. As of this date there are only 3 paid officers and a chief. I also believe that there are 3 auxillary officers.

I would suggest that if anyone has any questions that they contact Chief Chapman, Mayor Watkins, or Ron Hays Public Safety Committee Chair.
Here Here!

I'd think you would call for a reference before hiring an officer considering you KNOW where they were employed! Try looking at the Municipal Court public records sometime (a background check would be even better). Your officers can't even keep the law and you want them to protect us? Come on, charges for menacing, bad checks, traffic violations? Who knows what deeper secrets they may hide. Are we going to outsource financial management to a CPA with embezzlement charges next?
