Speed Bumps

Posted in: Big Bear Farms
I have heard that the notion of installing speed bumps in our neighborhood is being considered. Does anyone have any thoughts? Personally, I used to live in an area (Brookside Woods) where there were speed bumps. I absolutely despised them. I am totally against the idea. I would hope that there is much input from the neighborhood before such a decision is made. I would even suggest that those in favor make a few trips through Brookside Woods to see what they are like. Any comments??

Where did you hear speed bumps were in the works? Be honest.

Speed bumps will only lower property value. The first thing a potential buyer will see is that it is a negative. We do need to work to manage speed on Big Bear and Waynebrown. I agree speed bumps are not the answer.

I know someone was using this as a negative to try and get votes against one of the candidates. I happen to know that the candidate only made the suggestion as a discussion point.

Don't get over excited about this as it will never happen.
Also agree

Forget about it, speed bumps won't happen. First of all Liberty Township won't allow it ,because it hinders the snow plows.Second, the cost is enormous, because they would have to do Big Bear Ave to Sawmill, Hampshire Ave and Waynebrown from BBA to Seldom Seen.
Four way Stop signs at each intersection would help, but it is not a cure all. Our own residents are some of the worst offenders. I personally believe a lawsuit should be brought against M/I, because sidewalks were promised throughout the neighborhood. Our kids are forced to ride their bikes on the street.

I went right to the source ( Road and Maintainence Dept) and I found out it takes 50 % of the residents to sign a petition and then it goes before the Liberty trustees for a vote. residents on Carriage rd requested them and were turned down. They have NEVER been approved in Liberty Township. Stop signs would also have to be approved. It would be hard to get 20% of the residents to sign a petition. I think you can rest easy.
