Today I fill up at Albertson's on 78/190. I noticed as I filled up that there was a sticker proclaiming up to 10% Ethanol. At the time, I thought it was great...our car came from California and is Ethanol ready.
Anyway, on the news tonight was a story about how there have been lots of cars ruined, in Dallas, because of water mixed into the gas. If the storage tanks are not cleaned out before the switch to the gas/ethanol mix, there can be water trapped into the mixture, too. It only takes a little to cause thousands of dollars worth of damage.
The guy on the news said that the current suggestion is that you buy your gas at stations affiliated with gas companies.
I have sent off an email to Albertson's asking for reassurance that I haven't just toasted my engine! I will let you know how they respond.
Take care,
Margaret
