DART has a serivce to call for a handirides equiped van to take persons living with disabilites to the bus or train connection .The curb side service costs a minumum .There is also a new route from the downtown station to the PARKLAND health center.
One missing piece is the on call for people on the neighborhoods as some have a mile or so to the nearest bus route. Plano and Richardson now have this option but Garland does not. The senior commission has worked for years to get this as many folks do not qualify as disabled - a pretty rigorous testing , but really cannot go one mile and get across our streets that are clearly not pedestrian friendly - this is our city's transportation dept fault , however we would want to ahve the same benfits as the adjoining cities..Visit www.DART.org for all the new info.
