Twice we have had issues needing an electrician. Once was when we kept blowing circuits and today we thought we needed to replace the whole box because we have one with a history of problems.
The first time we called Puckett Electric Company , recommended by our AC guy, Dwight . http://www.dwightsheatandair.com/
A gentleman came out, inspected the house. He explained the amount of electricity that each circuit could hold and how vacuums and hair driers are just heavy loads and used at the same time as other things, they just tend to blow circuits. Now, you must understand that we were prime targets, at the time, for the unscrupulous. We thought we had major problems and if they had wanted, they could have really taken advantage of us. Instead, the guy spent 30-45 minutes inspecting and then educating me. . . at NO CHARGE!
Today, we had a concern about a FPE panel. http://www.inspect-ny.com/fpe/FPEBreakers.htm
If you research them you will find that some of them have a history of causing fires. Instead of just replacing /adding a circuit, as we had thought, we ( really just me ) were convinced that we needed to replace the whole panel - now. So, I called the same company- Puckett Electric Company.
An older gentleman, I believe the owner, came out to check on the panel. He explained that it would need to be replaced eventually, but at this time it was fine. He explained what he would replace it with and how much it would cost. He explained how I could tell if it was starting to heat up. Then he put in a new circuit for me, replaced the sample one we had removed, and we are now up and running and can schedule the repair at our convenience. Our lights are back on in the kitchen and the new light and fan in our bathroom are working like a charm!
Though this all took him about 5 minutes, I asked him what I owed him for coming out and being such a huge help, he said NOTHING!
So, I want you all to know that I really have had great service from Puckett Electric Company and highly recommend them.
