Neighborhood Security

Posted in: Queen Creek Ranchettes III

As of March 10, 2010 there have been several recent vehicle break-ins in our neighborhood. What should we do about preventing this kind of crime in QCRIII?

There was another break-in on May 19th. This time is was a home (garage) invasion at about 0230 AM. It appears that the perps found a way to generate garage opener codes (GENIE system) and opened the garage door of a residence; other garage doors in the area opened but only one garage was entered. The perps stole personal items (purse, keys, IDs, credit cards, etc.) from a vehicle in the garage, plus some tools. The home was not entered. They used the credit cards immediately but they got cancelled by about 0730 AM.

Note that if a vehicle is left outside a home with a garage door opener left inside and is burgled, the opener can be used to open the garage door of the home. Then the home can be entered from the garage.

Message: if you park a vehicle outside your home overnight, don't leave anything inside it that you don't want stolen. If you have an alarm on your home, make sure that the garage doors are covered and set the alarm to "Stay" mode at night.
