We are well into this year's membership campaign. The membership committee has their sights set on 300 members this year. The first invoices went out the first week of January, and we are now at 182 as of this printing. We will resend the invoices the first week of March to remind those that haven't sent theirs back. Let me give you all a little history, in the event you are new to the neighborhood. We had an increase from $50.00 to $75.00 in 2001 largely as a result of the police department tripling the cost of the use of police cars to patrol our neighborhood by off duty officers. In addition, we asked people to voluntarily send an additional amount in for Crime Strike if they were able. Because of decreasing revenues and increasing costs, we had to seek other avenues to patrol our area to make the most efficient use of your donations. Someone brought up at the February 8th Neighborhood Safety meeting why do we just ask for a donation of $75.00. The answer to that is if everybody contributes, we can do the job for $75.00. Here is where you come in. Please talk to your neighbors about sending membership dues in. We may not need to raise dues if more people contribute. But it is going to take the entire neighborhood pulling together to better our community. It's worth fighting for.
