To Joan and BRF2

Broomfield open space acquistions underway include the Mitchem property north of Miramonte Blvd., the Petebliss property north of US 36, and the Nordstrom property in north Broomfield. In addition, negotiations are occurring for the area between Le Gault Reservoir and Tom Frost Reservoir.
BRF2, you asked that none of the open space areas along the Northwest Parkway corridor be listed, so I did not list any. However, you indicated citizens are not in favor of the Parkway. When Broomfield updated its Master Plan, one of the alternates did not include the Parkway. Citizen feedback said to include the Parkway. Did you attend any of these Master Plan meetings?
Joan, if you live in a city or town, are you aware of any open space acquistions being made by your city or town?

For WW

I think both Bill Berens and Larry Cooper are good men. We all have our moments. I thought the election may be closer than it was.
There may be no transition to a city/county if CVELG is successful in having the amendment repealed.
Have you ever given serious thought to running for city council? I know it takes a lot of time and effort, but I think you would make an excellent member of a city council. Seriously. You research issues. You communicate very well. You care and you show it. These are admirable attributes. I wish you were on my side.

I am with you; the entire mayoral race would have been much more credible by staying with the issues. At any rate; I personally hope Larry has the opportunity to stay involved with the council; either through committee or other avenues.

Referring to Steve Olstad; I personally do not live in his ward; so did not vote either way. I recognize that he was co-chairman for Vote No; I also believe that he supported the city/county formation immediately after the vote. It was in the paper that all vote-no participants would be supportive of the new county. From what I heard and read about Steve; he is very supportive of the both the goals and work required to take BF into the level of admiration by other communities. If I had been in the ward; I would have voted for him; because I personally find Jason more verbose than an action person. To state that he follows the guidelines of the Master Plan faithfully, well, you and I know about the town center.
Steve, on the other hand, would be a fool to take a vote no agenda into council.

Based on what has been posted on the Boulder open space; I would have to agree that this was part of the county agreement. For example, I did not know it was part of a council meeting in April.
As for your participation on the board; I still encourage you to get some help. Right now you are the only one being bombarded with all the questions and innuendos; and that is a hard position to be in. You are doing an excellent job; and are great to communicate with; I agree that sometimes wrong information is sometimes posted; but what the heck; that is why we are all here; to discover the fact; not the fiction.

I have learned this much; it doesn't matter what the vote was in 98 anymore; it matters what the vote will be in 2000.

BF Master Plan/ NW Parkway

Yes, I attended the meetings that occurred regarding the master plan, strategic plans and also have in hand the three NW Parkway alternatives. In fact I personally know Chris Duerkson, the cowriter of BF master plan. He is highly respected. Also, the value of BF's master plan is excellent. I have comp plans for about 8 cities in the Northern area and Broomfield's is the best as far as environmental concerns, wildlife impacts, etc... I support the BF master plan, but not the parkway. Let me give you some info about that.

In 1987 Colo legislators adopted the Public Highway Authority Act which basically allows private investors to build highways and to be granted the power of emminant domain. This means, since there is no public indebtedness, the parkway can be built without a vote of the people. This is a very bad act because there are so many loopholes!

So, what is happening now is that there are three voting board members on the NW Pky Authority. They are Mayor Berens, ex-Mayor Carol McIntosh, Lafayette and Weld county commissiner Barbara Kirkmeyer. It is these three people that will ultimately decide to build the Pkwy.

I think in 1994 BF city elections asked if residents wanted the parkway, they people voted it down, Lafayette has never had the opportunity to vote on it and Weld County, as far as I know, has not voted either.

So, here we have these elected officials that have all doled out $100,000 in taxpayer money to be a voting member on the authority. Even though, we as taxpayers do not get to vote on it.

Currently the alleged environmental analysis is under way. They are looking for to endangered/threatened species, Prebles mouse and the white orchid. Guess what, they did not find either! So that means this parkway will be built even though it will have devistating impacts to our air, traffic, congestion, sprawl and our wildlife.

The worst part about it, there is not one damn thing any of us could do about especially now since old Bill was reelected to office. This was a very big mistake!
