This incident was reported last month in the cyberwatch group (contact david yawn if you would like to be part of the e-mail list) and also discussed by Major Tim Cook during the May general meeting of the neighborhood association.

A person residing in the Sea Isle area reported hearing the doorbell while in the shower, peeked outside and saw a van with Sears.com posted on its side, assumed the two men were at the wrong house and they'd figure it out, and returned to finish getting ready to leave.  Letting the dog out in the back yard, the dog proceeded to run around barking continuously, and that's when owner discovered the men had backed the van up to the rear gate and were deciding how best to break in.  They immediately left after the dog had raised the alarm.

Major Cook indicated this scam may have been attempted at a few other locations, but nothing I know of has been posted about it in the last couple of weeks.  The recent news in the CA about men in a white van being arrested probably refers to a different group of thugs, since their m.o. involved masked armed robbery, rather than just breaking and entering.

Remain vigilant, however, and always report anything suspicious -
