As Neighborhood Watch Captain, I have been over-joyed at some of the community-spirited things I have seen our Block Captains and Alternates do to help make our community safer.
One Block Captain hosted a meeting in her home to get residents acquainted with
each other and involved in the program.
Another and his wife went door to door taking with the residents and getting their
views on how they could keep each other safe.
Several came up with phone trees for alerts.
Three have a definite plan to make sure elderly residents get the word. One even has
a system for two people to check with the elderly residents on a regular basis.
But, we still don't have Whipps Bend, the western end of Shelbyville Road, the 200 block of Holliswood, and both blocks of Dorchester in the program because they have not selected a block captain and alternate.
