City to retake property reval photos E-mail

PAWTUCKET — Don’t be alarmed if you see someone walking around your neighborhood taking pictures of properties over the next month. Tax Assessor Dave Quinn said that employees of Vision Appraisal, the firm hired by the city to conduct the recent revaluation, will be going to all city neighborhoods over the next month to re-take photos of properties related to the recent revaluation. “Vision Appraisal subcontracted the outdoor imaging to an outside company and neither of us were happy (with the results), so we’re re-shooting (the properties) to get a more accurate representation,” Quinn said. “I wasn’t happy with the quality of the work. If someone had a house with an attached family room and garage, the pictures were coming in with a 60 degree angle wouldn’t capture what it looked like. The photos are supposed to represent all the amenities.”
Along with their cameras, the three Vision Appraisal employees will have an ID badge and will also have a letter from Quinn stating the purpose of their job. The automobiles they will be driving will also be registered with the police department.
Quinn said that the trio will be starting immediately and will be canvassing the city streets alphabetically. It is anticipated that the project will take a month to six weeks to complete. The photos will only be taken of the exterior of homes and the workers will not need entry to any properties. The new photos will not impact any assessments.
Quinn stated that the photo “do-over” will not cost the city any additional costs. It’s all part of the original contract with Vision Appraisal.
Quinn said the purpose of the photos is “so that people know that the value is correct and to have as much transparency as possible online, so that if people have a question, they can see the amenities.”
Quinn said that anyone with questions can call his office at 728-0500 ext. 218.

Ask for ID and they do not need to get onto your property. Be aware of possible scams with fakes
