Graffiti reported to code is suppose to be removed within 48 hours and the city allocated funds for this. Please, report these occurrences and stay on top of them. If gang related, these graffiti writings can serve to establish ''territory'' for the gangs...the longer they remain, the more established the territory. Garland has some gangs that are considered to be associated with ''organized crime'' on a national level.

grafiti and tagging
Thank you for putting up the notice. I have spent the evening emailing the police and code. John Teel, Dir of health, code and other areas, has left as head of health but Rick Barker is still head of code and I have emailed and forwarded some of everyones' notes. The McAlisters and Marty Kaplan have been so dutiful in reporting but cannot keep up. Please, everyone report what you see as it is growing like weeds.
Thank you - Lee

Thanks!
We had some experience with this before we moved and it took way too long for it to be removed...Mr. Teel is the one who told me about the 48 hour rule and the special funds set aside for grafiti removal.
Shawn, the girls and I will pay special attention to the playground area and the bridge at Coomer Park. So far we have notified the Parks office twice of grafiti and we have only been here since the end of Feb. I will say that once it was made clear to them that there was a profain picture on the slide, it was taken care of very quickly. Between Leslie and us, we should hopefully stay on top of it.
From what I have read, the key to keeping grafiti down, is to remove it quickly . . . after a couple of attempts, they lose interest if it doesn't stay.

grafiti
I know that the police were called tonight 6/24 but it is hard to find the kids as they cruise around. I WILL try to patrol the park again as i saw this starting last week - in the extreme. I have notified our NPO and Leslie spoke with the parks dept.We are inviting Jim Stone, head of parks to our next meeting on Thursday June 8 at the N Garland library - with summer break this would be a good time to have all depts invovled
