City information regarding test

I spoke with the City of Wylie recently in regards to the backflow test. According to their representative with the Public Works Department, the ordinance is still an enforcable law.

To this point, they have not taken action on people who have not had the test to this point, but do plan on this in the future. Which can include water being shut off to your home and the possibility of fines for those who are not compliant.

For those of you that have more questions about this issue you can contact Beth with the City of Wylie at 972-442-5338.
Only Homes in West Wylie

When we first fought this, the cost to get inspected was $100 by most inspectors and was pushed upon us by a new city ordinance. Research was done and presented to the city council. The onlyu homes targeted were the new ones that had registered the sprinkler system with the city. All of the other homes in Wylie with sprinkler system that were not registered were not targeted because they were grandfathered in or the city has no record of them. This would make the ordinance an unfair law targeted at only the new homes in West Wylie. This along with other information was presented to the city coouncil and they decided at that time not to enforce the back flow ordinance.

I find it kind of ironic that now that the inspection company has gained your confidence he says your back flow has failed this year. If I were you I would do some research into how often back flow systems actually need repair or fail. Part of the study and research we did showed that they hardly ever broke.
Still don't understand

How have we never heard of this? I've never gotten a letter or any other notification and we've lived here over three years. We've even had problems with the water company over billing and in all of those conversations, this never came up.
What do I need to do? Is this mandatory or not? How did the rest of you know about it? How do they know I have a sprinkler system? If we decide to do the test, how do we get the name of the companies who perform this test and what do we do with the results?
Please help!
backflow

Apparently the City does not know that you have a sprinkler system. I don't know if I would bring attention to it at this point you can have it tested yourself just to make sure that everything is ok. You can call Beth, the number given at an earlier post and find a list of people that do the test. Supposedly it is mandatory yearly. I found a great compnay that does it for $45, and he will send us a reminder next year when it is due again . I am NOT using the $20 person anymore . I don't trust them. Apparently I am not the only person he has failed.
