NO car wash
I am writing to oppose the development of a car wash at the corner of Baxter and Stevens avenue. I believe that a car wash, even a ''nice'' car wash is not appropriate to this area and will have far reaching damaging effects on the entire neighborhood. The developers do not own the property yet, and I think they should move elsewhere with their idea. They have every right to make money, but not at the expense of our neighborhood. It is simply not right to tuck an automatic car wash back into a residential neighborhood. Most car washes are placed in predominantly commercial areas along busy boulevards. Even the car wash on Bardstown road seems a bit misplaced, but not to the degree that this one would be. The negative sides effects far outweigh the minute convince that would be afforded. The practical damaging side effects include traffic congestion/rerouting into the neighborhood, increased sewage and runoff, noise, air and light pollution, decreased property values and potential crime situations. Even if the developers were open to accommodating some of our concerns, there are many things out of their control, and if/when they were to sell, there is no guarantee the next owner would abide by any of the agreements. I believe that a car wash would help create an environment that would not be neighbor friendly or positive for our this entire area. I love the highlands. I am invested in my neighborhood. Please help in the fight to protect it.
Thank you.
