Why do you belieive county jails are such a terrible thing? Are you aware of the fact that there are already public schools close to existing county jails and there have been no problems. Was Jefferson County corrupt when it built its county jail close to an existing public school? Of course not. You say Broomfield didn't give a darn about Westminster residents or Superior residents. Yet, Broomfield moved the jail further from Countryside to a location that will not any negative impact whatsoever on Superior's residents. Several years ago when Superior had a serious water supply problem, the only city that came to Superior's aid was Broomfield.
You said you were shocked when you learned about Broomfield's jail. Why were you shocked? Because you have all these preconceived notions about jails that are in conflict with reality. You say that the city of Westminster failed you. They helped to get the jail moved further away from you. What else could the city of Westminster do? They are certainly not afraid of Broomfield. They decided it was a reasonable compromise. You disagree. But, many others also believed it was a reasonable compromise.
It is my understanding the plutonium tests to which you refer were done by the EPA and the Colorado Department of Health and Environment. Are you saying that these agencies are under Broomfield's control? They are not.
The soils underlying your home have essentially the same levels of plutonium as do the soils on the site where Broomfield will build its jail. Are you aware of this? The soils where the Westmoor business park is being built have essentially the same levels of plutonium as does the Broomfield jail site. Why is it that you believe the Broomfield jail site poses some public safety problem to you but where you live does not?
You assert that neither Broomfield or Westminster have morals and ethics in their governments. This is not true. Governments may make decisions that all of us do not agree with, but that does not make them unethical. Broomfield believes that Broomfield was ethical in its recent jail decision. Westminster believes it was ethical in encouraging Broomfield to move the jail further away from Countryside. You believe all of this was unethical. At the heart of your belief is a belief that a jail is bad and terrible thing. Jails are not what you perceive them to be. And, the actions of Broomfield and Westminster are not what you perceive them to be.
