What Is Streamlining?
To be honest, this does sound like a more streamlined form of government. It could possibly work. There is a greater potential to serve the community. However, it comes at a price. It is a simple design trade-off. Under this form of government, there is a greater potential for misuse. Citizens have only the city council to rely on for their disputes. Based on the history of Broomfield officials, this would scare me. I make this statement from my personal experience. I have seen how the input of citizens is ignored. The city council has heard input from residents and then immediately voted against their wishes without giving it a second thought. Even requests to simply delay a decision for further study have been ignored. I have been told by several active residents that what I have seen is only a fraction of such behavior. By removing other elected officials, you remove any other chance citizens have to direct the future of their communities. If we were to disband the House of Representatives and give all legislative authority to the Senate, we could call it streamlining government. Laws would be passed more quickly. There would be fewer steps in the legislative process thereby allowing lawmakers to "focus" on our needs. Citizens would have a direct link to this process via their elected Senators. We could remove a great deal of partisan politics from the business at hand. The legislative process would be simplified to a nearly ideal lawmaking machine. But then our system would fall apart. Special interest groups would have greater control on our future and each Senator, being human, would feel more pressure to sometimes act against the interests of the people. In short, a diversity of elected officials benefits us. It may not be the most efficient form of government, but it is one where a balance between government performance and citizen control has been optimized. It was designed this way for a reason and it should stay this way. By Adrian |

Who Wrote This?
On this discussion board, writing styles and other forms of expression are like fingerprints. You are not the same person who sincerely posted what (s)he felt were benefits to forming the city and county of Broomfield. My replies to those proposed benefits listed NO references to ANY so-called "fictional linkages" that you like to create. My replies were intentionally very respectful and very objective. I even agreed with a few of the benefits to some degree. You, however clever you think you are, show us that you are not able to draw any rational conclusions regarding this matter. Please do the BBW name a favor and leave the debating to the individual who posted the list of benefits. By Adrian |
