RICHFIELD EXPANSION

Posted in: Foxfield
I HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING THE UNINCORPORATION OF FOXFIELD ISSUE (WHICH I AM IN FAVOR OF) AND I TOOK PEOPLES ADVICE AND CALLED BRYAN WEIMER FROM ARAPAHOE COUNTY.

ON JANUARY 18TH, HE TOLD ME THAT THERE IS NO PLAN ON THE DRAWING BOARDS OR EVEN UNDER CONSIDERATION TO EXPAND RICHFIELD. HE SAID EVEN IF THERE WAS, IT WOULD HAVE TO GO THROUGH A ZONING CHANGE MEETING WHICH THE CITIZENS OF OUR AREA WOULD HAVE A STRONG SAY SO.

HE ALSO ASKED ME ''WHY SHOULD ARAPAHOE COUNTY WANT TO EXPAND RICHFIELD INTO 4 LANES WHEN IT HAS NOWHERE TO GO''? HE ALSO SAID: ''WE HAVE A LIMITED NUMBER OF DOLLARS TO SPEND AND IT WILL BE BETTER SPENT TO IMPROVE OTHER MAJOR THOROUGHFARES IN ARAPAHOE COUNTY''.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS REGARDING THIS I RECOMMEND YOU CONTACT BRYAN INSTEAD OF LISTENING TO MORE MISINFORMATION PUT OUT BY UNEDUCATED INDIVIDUALS. AT ONE TIME THERE MAY HAVE BEEN PLANS TO EXPAND RICHFIELD BUT THEY ARE NO LONGER BEING CONSIDERED. LET'S USE SOME COMMON SENSE, LIKE ARAPAHOE COUNTY IS DOING, AND NOT LISTEN TO SCARE TACTICS PUT OUT BY UNINFORMED INDIVIDUALS.

Richfield - rumor quashed

After hearing a trustee tell us at a town meeting that we should not return to Arapahoe County because Richfield could be widened, I called Arapahoe County for the facts, also.

I was told the same thing as the anonymous writer (by the way, use your name; be proud).

It only makes sense to spend money where it is really needed. It only makes sense that widening is not in the plans. Can you imagine the brain damage the County would get from a meeting to widen that road? That alone should keep them from thinking about it. The County Commissioners would have to explain to the entire county how they prioritized their expenditures.

Fortunately, there is supposed to be a meeting coming where both sides can present the facts. I hope these scare tactics are exposed. The homeowners, and tax payers will have an opportunity to make an informed decision by election time.

RICHFIELD EXPANSION

''AT ONE TIME THERE MAY HAVE BEEN PLANS TO EXPAND RICHFIELD BUT THEY ARE NO LONGER BEING CONSIDERED.''

Yes, this is true, and is a great example of the influence Foxfield has in this region.
Before Foxfield was incorporated, the County wanted to direct the flow of traffic down Buckley via Richfield to connect to Parker Road near Bronco Parkway. This would provide partial relief to the big traffic problem at Arapahoe and Parker. Once the town was formed, these plans were changed at the request of Foxfield. If the town ceases to exist, and the Farm and other communities to our North continue to expand, there will be a great deal of pressure to make the Buckley-Richfield connection a major thoroughfare.

Again, only because Foxfield exists as a town. Foxfield did not have authority to prevent widening of Arapahoe - look how quickly residents property was condemned to accomplish that! By the way, widening a road doesn't require a zoning change...

Roads already too wide

Jerry,

Thank you for making clear that Arapahoe County does not plan on widening Richfield.

Taking the idea of width one step further, wouldn't it make sense to reduce the width of our rights-of-way, not only in front of the homes, but throughout the entire neighborhood? This would be an easy process through Arapahoe County.

We live on a cul-de-sac and dead-end road that are both 50 feet wide. If the town's roads were narrower, it would discourage faster driving and would cost less to maintain (it would also be more attractive to Arapahoe County relative to what it would cost to pave it).

But one of my neighbors asked Foxfield about making the road narrower and was told by a trustee that he could not see why we should change the 50 feet to something less. If we indeed do not plan on expanding, and there is nowhere to expand, then why not reduce the width of the right-of-way?

What say ye?
