At its meeting on September 23, the Des Moines City Council approved the ''Recreation Trails for the West Side of Des Moines'' and passed the following resolution:

''WHEREAS, trail development is a high priority with the citizens of the City of Des Moines and the Des Moines City Council; and

WHEREAS, the City of Des Moines Metropolitan Planning Organization Bicycle/Pedestrian Facilities Plan has been established as a priority trail development project in the Des Moines metropolitan region which will provide recreational opportunities for many Des Moines citizens; and

WHEREAS, the Waveland Park Neighborhood Association (WPNA) has proposed that the City of Des Moines design and construct two trail segments which together circumnavigate its approximate geographical boundaries; and

WHEREAS, the Park and Recreation Board has approved the WPNA proposed trail segments.

WHEREAS, the Metropolitan Planning Organization accepts recommendations to include new segments of trails for development within the Des Moines metropolitan area from its constituent governing bodies of which Des Moines is a member;

NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Des Moines, Iowa;
That the trail proposal recommended by the Park and Recreation Board and supported by the Waveland Park Neighborhood Association is hereby approved, and the Mayor is hereby authorized and directed on behalf of the City to recommend such proposal to the metropolitan Planning Organization, and the City Clerk is hereby directed to attest to his signature.''
