To Improve the Park on Spinoza

Posted in: W Warren Neighborhood City Hall
I have owned and occupied my home in this neighborhood for nine years, now. I'm amazed at how little the park gets used (except for the parking area). I've seen worse parks drastically improved by installing a disc (frisbee) golf course. I'd be delighted to spearhead the movement to achieve this improvement.

SE lower Michigan is a hotbed of the rapidly growing sport of disc golf. The only maintenance involved is the mowing of the grass, which already occurs. The installation of tees and targets (called baskets or pole holes) is relatively cheap and easy. There are a number of suburban disc golf clubs, organizations, and a national association who would all lend assistance in procuring course design and equipment.

One of only three golf disc manufacturers is located in Walled Lake, MI. If they won't supply the baskets, their competition would.

Golf frisbees cost about $9 - $12 each. That makes it inexpensive for just about anyone who wants to play. Disc golfers are notorious environmentalists who tend to leave the park cleaner than when they arrived, by picking up garbage they come across while playing, and disposing of it properly. I believe a disc golf course at the park on Spinoza would bring some very positive, sorely needed traffic to the park, which in turn would help detour idle predators and vandals.
