In todays sports section, way in the back part, it is being said the concrete once again should be removed.
Does anyone really know how much of this
is a serious concern to us and/or if we
will have any say to the outcome?
Article a big surprise

The article was a big surprise in that no one has let us know anything about this other than the Army Corp was ''looking at'' the concrete channel.

We have to be straight about this.
IT IS all about fish and always has been, that was the point of the drop structure removal and the almost 3 million dollars spent on it was,
for FISH.

How many times did neighbors say at meetings with MMSD and other officials over the years that this is not Northern
Wisconsin, this is an URBAN neighborhood and the last thing we need is to be
inundated with fishermen.

No one has ever said they want a ''boulder lined'' monstrosity like they have upriver. It has made that section more of an attractive nuisance than this section of the river ever has been. Talk to the business owners up there and see what kind of hell the drop structure removal and the boulder lined channel being put in has created for them. They have problems with vandalism, grafitti, garbage, psrking problems, trespassing, people setting camp fires along the river, and kids getting injured on the rocks who think its a cool place to play.

We tentatively have a neighborhood meeting set to take place on Tuesday April 29th at 6:30 pm at Marquette High School. The flood insurance issue (getting us out of the flood plain), and the Detention Basin Flood Control boondoggle are to be on the agenda.
We're inviting MMSD and County and other officials to answer our questions. Guess we can add this to the list.

Milwaukee Police will also attend for a short portion of the meeting.
Flyers will go out within the next 2 weeks regarding the meeting.

There are too many OTHER unresolved issues that need to be dealt with regarding
this river and they do not concern fish!

Flood Control Project or put us into the flood plain.

Fate of Businesses upriver

The MMSD did a real crummy thing to those businesses downriver of where the dropstructure was removed. Now that it has been removed, and the river rerigged with the boulders, they have to move out because they were put further into the flood plain. If there is a 100 year flood they have no chance.
Low River O.K. keeps things safe

Why would we want the river redone to make the flow faster and the depth higher all the time?
The river is low and dry most of the time, except in the wettest of times.
Did they not know this when they designed the thing up river from us?
Or is this just part II of an ulterior motive to naturalize this section of the river all along, playing right into the hands of special interest environmental groups, letS say FOR EXAMPLE: Friend of Milwaukees Rivers who orchestrated the drop structure removal project?!
