Hi, Buckman neighbors.,
I am actually a Richmond neighborhood resident living at 32nd and Hawthorne, but am saddened and sickened b the situation that is going on with the old historic homes at 28th. I know one of the homes will be demolished and the other is questionable as to whether it will be saved or moved. In any case, the whole situation has me quite upset. The funeral home and the two historic homes, both a reflection of early Portland seemed to stand as a gateway to the Hawtorne district. Replacing them with large Apartment buildings with little to no on street parking, in our older neighborhood does not sit well with me. Not to mention it all feels like it has been a very, very, fast process. Having just heard about it I see some of you have been able to voice your concerns and try and work with the developer. I still feel like those of us who are current or older residents have little to no power or say on these decisions and the move forward wether we like it or not. We tend to be at the mercy of the developers and architects to "play nice".
I realize it is too late for these old homes, it is now a project in full swing.
I am however wanting to stage some type of protest, to draw attention to what is being done. this is what I am going to do.
PLEASE JOIN ME!
TOMORROW! SATURDAY NOV 3rd 9PM
I am going to hang a R.I.P. HISTORIC HOMES sign on the chainlink fence surrounding the houses and place vigil candles, flowers and memorial momentos a the base of the fence. In order to draw attention to what is happening there. PLEASE JOIN ME, bring candles, plastic or fresh flowers, notes that can be tied to the fence etc.... I am calling the media to see if I can get them there to cover the story, and bring some attention to this issue that just keeps happening here in SE.
PLEASE INVITE ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS WHO WOULD BE INTERESTED TO JOIN US !
