Councilman Hall and family featured in San Antonio Magazine!
“When former San Antonio City Councilman Art A. Hall and his wife Stephanie, an attorney at Valero, decided to buy a new home in 1998, the choice was difficult. Not the neighborhood, but the house.
“I was leaning toward one that needed some work,” he explains, “but my wife preferred the one that was better maintained. She was right, of course. We really didn’t have time for many renovation projects.”
Their home, a one-story brick structure built in the early 1980’s, sits in Caste Hills Forest, which is located off Northwest Military Highway between Loops 410 and 1604. Most of the 800-plus residences here are 25 to 30 years old and range from smaller garden homes to larger, two-story homes in an array of architectural styles. Easy access to many of the city’s major thoroughfares is a significant benefit, according to Art, even though the neighborhood has only one entrance and exit.
“It gives you the feeling of living in a private, gated community without the feeling of exclusivity,” he explains.
Part of the charm of Castle Hills Forest stems from efforts by the active neighborhood association. Summer parties at the community swimming pool are a hit with residents, as are the annual Easter egg hunt and National Night Out celebrations. A community garage sale is scheduled each year to provide homeowners the chance to clear their closets and participate in a collaborate project that is both fun and profitable.
“We have a great neighborhood association,” says Art, a practicing attorney and investment banker. “It’s a big reason this is such a satisfying and safe place to live.”
Two changes occurred in the Hall household in 2005: a bedroom was added and a daughter, Londyn, was born. These transformations represent not only his home, but his neighborhood and the city as well, according to Art, “We’re all growing.”
