I am a concerned parent and I believe that are children being safe in our neighborhood is a major concern for many in our community. I have a lot of questions regarding the sex offender registry and what rights we have or we can put into place to alert our neighborhood if a sex offender is living here or around us. Is there a contact at the City or Police that could answer our questions.
Mine are:
1. It was my understanding that the police would hand out flyers in the area when a sex offender moved there. However, in one instance my children were sent home with a notice from school (not sure if the police had them hand them out) and since then one has moved in and I have not received anything from anyone. What is the notification process to the community if any?
2. Is there any restrictions as to how close they can reside to schools ? Especially since we do support a school in are boundries -- and a number of children walk to and from.
3. How can we as a community make sure that all are informed when this arises? -- Some people do not have internet access == I think something like this would be a priority to notify especially within own neighborhood.
4. If we are able to set up some kind of system (flyers, ect) -- What information can we by law put on the subject?
Hopefully we can help each other stay informed.
