Yes, the Conannt St Bridge will be built for 2010, but you have heard that before...but the Commuter Rail station will be in that area on Barton St with lots of parking from the burned out mill....that was the story at the mfg summit today...so what do you say?

Yesterday's Times concurs that the Barton Street site is the preferred one for a commuter stop. The article cites some valid, but not insurmountable, concerns with the rail infrastructure at the existing station, but it also says it's better because it's "walking distance to downtown" (it's actually the same third of a mile to either site, there's existing "downtown" businesses along Broad Street, and there's NO bus connection at the Barton Street site). I'm thinking the "preferred alternative" has more to do with lucrative development opportunities for the mills across the street. |

Does that zero post mean that nothing really will happen? Pawtucket always seems to find excuses why they can't move ahead and yet other cities move but maybe the political baggage here is too weighty. Come November next, we just might ease the burden with some changes and finally move ahead |
