The Downs neighborhood includes houses on the upper portion of the North facing slope of the ridge above Sulpher Gulch.

The streets are named for famous race horses. The streets are named Cannonade Way, Dark Star Way, Hill Gail Way, Omaha Avenue, Swale Drive, Swale Avenue, Unbridled Drive, Unbridled Avenue and Whirlaway Avenue. The neighborhood is bisected by Riva Ridge Street which continues Eastward below the crest of the ridge to intersect with Canterberry Parkway, which is the primary access to the Canterberry Crossing Golf Course.

Most of our residents are commuters who leave Parker to work in other towns in the greater Denver area. We were attracted to the small town atmosphere, the great views of the Front Range of the Rockies, recreational ammenities and attractive real estate values that Parker offers.

Many of us have moved here from out of state or have lived in other states before coming to this area. And, therefore are used to quickly settling into a neighborhood, getting acquainted, and finding local activities that fit into the lifestyles we prefer. We are open, chatty, willing to help our neighbors, and are hungrily looking for friends and activities for our children (who are all good looking and slightly above average.)

Many of us immediately volunteer or join to help in schools, sports leagues, churches etc. We go to more professional sports, concerts, theater and cultural activities and events than residents of almost any other area in the country.

Our houses and landscaping are beautiful, but we spend little time in them,when not actually maintaining them, preferring to pursue entertainment, or other activities away from home.

We are nice and friendly, but we are very busy.

About our association

The Downs Home Owners Association was formed and filed with the county of Douglas in Colorado, on April 14, 1994, as a sub association under the Villages of Parker dba Canterberry Crossing Master Association.

Three home builders Richmond, Ryland and Richardson built all of the 176 homes in the original sub association, completing them in 1999. On July 1, 1999, more than 80% of The Downs membership voted to annex the two new developments, one by Joyce Homes, the other, a new Richmond on its then Eastern border, extending The Downs to Canterberry Parkway.

The community originally joined the sub associations of Saddlebrook and Derby Hill and was followed by Palmetto and Meadow Grove.

The community enjoys a small park and children's playground off Hill Gail Way, separating it from Meadow Grove. Being adjacent to the Canterberry Golf Course and to undeveloped ranch land, the residents often take walks and admire the views of the front range of the Rockies from Pike's Peak to the Southwest and Long's Peak to the Northwest and the Cherry and Platte Valleys paralleling the mountains.

The rapid development of Canterberry Crossing and all of the Parker area brings an unending stream of new neighbors, kids and dogs, and landscaping ideas.
