History

In March of 2000 a small group of downtown merchants, along with the support of city staff formed what is now the Downtown Glendale Merchants Association. By-laws were adopted and officers and a board of directors elected. What began as a group of approximatly 20 area merchants has now grown to over 60 members and growing!

Area

While the full membership boundaries are the 134FWY to the north, Colorado Blvd to the south, Orange St. to the west, and Maryland Ave. to the east, the DGMA welcomes merchants from all over to join as associate members. Associate members enjoy the same benefits as full members, but are not given voting rights on merchant issues. Ideas and input are always encouraged throughout the membership at our monthly meetings. At this time, yearly membership dues for full members is $100, and for associate members $50.

Events and Promotion

*Glendale Expo- Held each June. This is our signature event. Merchant booths, restaurants, live music, and a kid's zone.
*Fall/Winter Fling- Held in either November or December, depending on type of event the association chooses for that year.
*Advertising- Through newspaper, tv, radio, or sponsorship. The membership votes on which type they believe will most benefit the members.
*City Involvement- By addressing issues to the City Council we believe are important to our members, making our voices heard.

Downtown Glendale Merchants Association

The DGMA was started two years ago by area merchants along with the help and support of the City of Glendale. We have experienced unanticipated growth and support from throughout the Glendale community. As of August 2001, our membership has grown to include 60 area merchants. Our success is a tribute to our members' dedication to seeing the downtown area thrive.

Goals and Objectives

Our association exsists entirely for our members benefit. Our first priority is to promote our members through various events,advertising, and sponsorship opportunities. We also serve as a strong, united voice to our members when it is necessary to address their concerns to the city when issues arise that may affect their businesses. Join us!
