ELCM provides basic human needs including: food via our Dare to Care Emergency Food Distribution Center; clothing via referrals to clothes closets; and financial assistance for rent, mortgage, utility, and medications. Our major goal is to help prevent people from slipping into homelessness.
Elligibility is for those who live in the ELCM service area: parts of 40202, 40203, 40204, and 40206 who also meet financial criteria for poverty. Neighborhoods served include: Phoenix Hill, Butchertown, Smoketown, and Shelby Park.
This includes the Liberty Green, Dosker Manor, and Shepherd Square public housing complexes.
FORMATION: ELCM is a faith-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation formed by several urban congregations as a means to come together in unity to provide for basic human needs in our urban setting. ELCM was incorporated in 1993.
ACM AFFILIATION: ELCM is a member of the Association of Community Ministries comprising a group serving all of Jefferson County with similar basic services.
