Lots is going on with the library project these days. The science building is complete and so is the surrounding student parking lot. There are only a few landscaping things and some punch-out list items to address, but other than that, it?’s all ready for student use.
In the library, permanent electric will be finished and turned on by the end of next week. On the 1st floor the drywall is 98% completed, some walls are being primed, and tile is being laid in the bathrooms. On the second floor the framing is complete and hanging the drywall will begin next week. The steel framing of food services is almost complete and the windows will be arriving on site in 2-3 weeks so they can be installed and the exterior stucco can be completed. The design team assigned to the children?’s area are off and running with all the fantastic ideas. All I am allowed to say is?…?… well not much more than, ?“Gosh our children are going to love it!?”
The bike trail extension of the Pinellas Trail has begun. They are starting it along 8th Ave. N. then down 69th Street then along 7th Ave. N. Along with the installation of the bike trail will also be the decorative circle at the intersection of 7th Ave. N. and 70th Street. This is also meant to help slow the traffic down even further and/or discourage the drivers all together. The four-way stop at the same intersection has been installed and MOST drivers are using it correctly and some have even received a ticket for not using it correctly; so I have been told by Frank our neighbor on 8th Ave. N. However, the most effective slowing down technique that was recently installed is the speed table on 70th Street. Whatever was in their back seat is now in their front seat and the speed table has the scratches on it to prove it. It will receive its decorative brick look in 2 ?– 3 months. Drivers need to get used to it being there before the decorative part is installed. The other traffic calming devices are on there way as well. As we were all aware of from the start, not all of the traffic devices promised would be installed this year. The only thing that was not able to fit into the budget for this year was the two decorative entrance islands located on 8th Ave. N. off of 66th street and on 70th Street off of 9th Ave. North and their neighborhood marques. They will be installed next year. For those of you on 8th Ave. N. that have been having problems with SPC?’s activity bus I was finally able to get my point across to the athletic coach and the bus driver. I want to know if they are or are not holding up their end. I think that?’s everything however don?’t hesitate to call me with questions or concerns I am always happy to answer them.
Sincerely,
Candida Lavoie
